Some users may face the "Audio Service Not Running" issue in Windows 10. This article provides effective methods to restore normal audio functionality.

1. Update Drivers

Outdated or corrupted audio drivers are a common cause of the "Audio Service Not Running" error. To fix this issue, try updating the audio driver. It is recommended to use Driver Sentry to automatically detect and update drivers, saving time and avoiding the risk of downloading or installing incorrect drivers.

Download

Click the download button to get the latest version of Driver Sentry, install it, and open the software. Click "Scan".

After the scan is complete, it will show which drivers are missing or need updating. Find the audio driver in the list and click the "Upgrade" button.

Once the update is complete, restart your computer to ensure the updated driver works properly.

2. Ensure Audio Services Are Running

Press Win + R, type "services.msc", and press Enter.

In the "Services" window, find the "Windows Audio" service.

If the service is running, you can choose "Restart" to reload the audio service.

Also, check the "Windows Audio Endpoint Builder" service to ensure it is running.

Right-click the service and choose "Start" or "Restart".

Make sure these audio-related services are set to "Automatic". Right-click the service, choose "Properties", and set the "Startup type" to "Automatic".

3. Check Volume and Output Device Settings

Click the volume icon on the taskbar to ensure the volume is not muted.

If there is a small mute icon on the volume icon, click it to unmute.

In the volume settings window, adjust the volume slider to make sure the volume is not too low.

Right-click the volume icon and select "Open Sound Settings".

In the pop-up window, check the playback devices list to ensure the correct audio device (e.g., speakers or headphones) is set as the default device. If not, click the "Choose your output device" dropdown and select the device you need.
