In the process of daily use of computers, we will inevitably encounter the computer suddenly stuck motionless. In this article, we will introduce several common solutions to help you solve the problem of computer screen stuck motionless.

Step 1: Force the End of Applications

When you find an application or game stuck, you can try to close it through Task Manager. In Windows, press "Ctrl + Shift + Esc" key combination to quickly open Task Manager. Under the "Processes" or "Application History" tab, locate and select the application that is causing the problem, then click "End Task". This usually solves lagging problems caused by a single application.

Step 2: Restart Your Computer

If forcing a task to end doesn't work, or if the entire operating system becomes unresponsive, restarting your computer may be the most straightforward solution. Although sometimes forcing the computer to shut down (by long-pressing the power button) is necessary, try to avoid doing so as it may lead to data loss or file corruption. It is better to select "Restart" from the Start menu if the system allows it.

Step 3: Update Drivers

Outdated drivers or an operating system that is not up-to-date can be one of the reasons why your computer is lagging. It's recommended to use Driver Sentry for automatic driver updates, saving time and avoiding the risk of downloading or installing incorrect drivers.

Download

Click the download button to get the latest version of Driver Sentry, install it, and click "Scan".

Once the scan is complete, it will show drivers that need updates. Find the necessary drivers and click "Update".

After updating, restart your computer to ensure the new drivers take effect.

Step 4: Boot in Safe Mode

If your computer is stuck on a black screen, press and hold the power button for 10 seconds to force a shutdown. Then press the power button again to start the computer.

While the computer is booting, press and hold the F8 key until you see the "Advanced Startup Options" menu. If that doesn't work, force restart the system multiple times until you see the "Automatic Repair" screen.

Choose "Troubleshoot" > "Advanced Options" > "Startup Settings", and click "Restart". After the system restarts, press 4 or F4 to enter Safe Mode.

In Safe Mode, you can uninstall recently installed drivers or software to see if that resolves the black screen issue.

Step 5: Check the Hardware

Sometimes, the computer may get stuck because the hardware is overheated or poorly connected. Make sure that all hardware devices (such as memory sticks, hard disk drives, etc.) are properly and securely installed on the motherboard, and that the cooling system is working properly. Also, check that the power cables are plugged in properly to prevent lagging due to unstable power supply.

Step 6: Scan For Viruses and Malware

Virus or malware infection is also one of the major causes of computer performance degradation. Perform a full scan of your computer with a reliable anti-virus software and remove any potential security threats based on the scan results.

Step 7: Reinstall the Operating System

If all else fails, reinstalling the operating system might be the last resort. This will remove all data and settings, so ensure you have a backup of your important files.
