How to fix DirectX 12 is not supported on your system
Some Windows users may encounter the error message "DirectX 12 is not supported on your system". This article provides some effective solutions to help you fix this issue and restore a smooth user experience.
1. Update Graphics Drivers
Outdated or incompatible drivers can prevent DirectX 12 from working correctly. Checking for and updating your graphics drivers can effectively solve this issue. It's recommend to use Driver Sentry for automatic driver updates, which saves time and reduces the risk of downloading or installing incorrect drivers.
Click the download button to get the latest version of Driver Sentry. After installation, open the software and click "Scan".
Once the scan is complete, the software will display which drivers are missing or need updating. Find the graphics driver in the result list and click the "Upgrade" button.
After the update is complete, restart your computer to ensure the new drivers are properly applied.
2. Check GPU Compatibility
Press Win + R, type "dxdiag", and press Enter to open the DirectX Diagnostic Tool.
Click the "Display" tab and check the Feature Levels.
If it lists 12_0 or higher, your GPU supports DirectX 12.
If it only shows 11_1 or lower, your GPU is not fully compatible with DirectX 12, and you may need to upgrade to a newer model that supports it.
3. Enable Windows Features
Press Win + I to open Settings and select "System".
In the "Display" tab, find and enable "Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling".
This option allows the GPU to handle tasks more efficiently, improving DirectX 12 performance.
4. Modify Game Launch Options
In the game's launcher or settings, look for graphics or display-related options.
If the game allows you to choose the DirectX version, select DirectX 12.
If this option is not available, you can try adding a command line argument in the game's launch options. For example, in Steam:
Right-click the game experiencing the issue and select "Properties".
Under the "General" tab, click "Set Launch Options" and add one of the following commands:
-d3d11 (for DirectX 11)
-vulkan (for Vulkan API)
You can enter one or both options, but make sure to separate them with a space (e.g., -d3d11 -vulkan).
Save the settings and restart the game to see if DirectX 12 can be enabled.
5. Check for Windows Updates
Press Win + I to open Settings and select "Update & Security".
Under the "Windows Update" tab, click "Check for updates".
If there are updates available, the system will automatically download and install them.
After completing the installation process, restart your computer to ensure all updates take effect.
6. Reinstall DirectX
If the above methods do not work, it's possible that DirectX itself is corrupted. You can try reinstalling DirectX to fix the issue.
Visit the official Microsoft website to download the DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer.
Install it and follow the on-screen instructions.
After installation, restart your computer and try launching the game or application again.
By following the above methods, you should be able to fix the "DirectX 12 is not supported on your system" issue. If the problem persists, consider contacting the technical support team of your computer or graphics card manufacturer for further assistance.
