If the mouse has intermittent lag, moves poorly or fails briefly, it will affect the operation experience and even work and game efficiency. This article will provide a series of effective solutions to help you completely repair the mouse lag problem.

Step 1: Check the Hardware Problem

1. Replace the USB interface

If you are using a wired mouse, the USB port may have poor contact or insufficient power supply to cause the mouse lag. Try to insert the mouse into other USB ports, especially the rear USB port (directly connected to the motherboard, more stable power supply).

2. Replace or charge the battery (wireless mouse)

Wireless mice with low batteries may cause sluggish mouse movement or occasional lagging.

Replace with new batteries (AA or AAA batteries).

Charging the mouse should ensure that the charging is complete and try replacing the data cable for charging.

3. Try another mouse

If the problem persists after replacing the USB port, it is recommended to test with another mouse to confirm if the mouse itself is damaged. If the new mouse is normal, the old mouse may have a hardware failure and need to be replaced.

Step 2: Adjusting System Settings

1. Turn off the "Enhance pointer precision"

Windows default on the "improve pointer accuracy" may lead to the mouse in some scenarios of lag, it is recommended to turn off:

  • Press Win + R, type 'control' and enter to open the Control Panel.

  • Go to Mouse Settings and select "Pointer Options".

  • Uncheck "Enhance pointer precision" and click "OK".

2. Adjust USB power saving mode

The USB power saving mode of Windows may cause the mouse to disconnect or lag, you can turn it off by following steps:

  • Press Win + X and select Device Manager.

  • Expand Universal Serial Bus Controller (USB Controller).

  • Right-click on USB Root Hub and select Properties.

  • In the Power Management tab, uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" and click OK.

  • Reboot your computer to make the settings take effect.

If your mouse lags in Gaming Mode or High Performance Mode, you can try to adjust the power options:

  • Press Win + R, type 'powercfg.cpl' and enter.

  • Select High Performance or Balanced Mode and click Change Program Settings.

  • Go to Change Advanced Power Settings, find "USB Settings" > "USB Selective Suspend Settings and set it to Disabled".

Step 3: Update the Mouse Driver

If you don't want to manually troubleshoot the problem, you can use "Driver Sentry" to optimize the mouse driver with one click, so that the mouse operates more smoothly and improves the working and gaming experience!

Download

  • Click the download button to get the latest version of Driver Sentry. After installation, open the software and click "Scan".

Step 4: Check For System And Software Conflicts

1. Close programs that occupy resources in the background

When the CPU, memory or disk occupancy is too high, the mouse may appear lagging. You can use Task Manager to check and close high occupancy programs:

  • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.

  • In the Processes tab, check the CPU, memory, and disk occupancy.

  • Right-click on the program with high resource usage and select End Task.
