How to Fix No Sound On Laptop
The problem of no sound from your laptop may affect your daily use, whether you are watching videos, listening to music, or making video calls. This article will detail some common solutions to help you restore sound output from your laptop.
1. Check the Basic Settings
First of all, we need to make sure the volume and sound settings are correct:
Make sure your volume is not muted. You can click on the volume icon in the bottom right corner of the taskbar to make sure the volume is set appropriately. If there is a red "X" sign on the volume icon, the volume is muted.
Sometimes, the volume of specific applications may be individually turned down or muted. Open the application you are using and check its volume settings to make sure the volume is correct.
2. Make Sure The Audio Device is Correct
There may be multiple audio devices connected to your laptop and you need to make sure that the correct device is selected as the default output device:
Right-click on the volume icon and select "Sound".
In the "Playback" tab, make sure the audio device you are using is set as the default device.
Right-click on the device name and select "Set as Default Device".
3. Update Audio Driver
Audio driver problems are a common cause of no sound. Try updating or reinstalling the audio driver. We recommend using Driver Sentry to automatically detect and update drivers, saving time and avoiding the risk of downloading or installing incorrect drivers.
Download the latest version of Driver Sentry, install it, and open the software. Click "Scan".
After the scan is complete, the software will display missing or outdated drivers. Locate the audio driver in the list and click "Upgrade".
After updating, restart your computer to ensure the updated driver works properly.
4. Check Audio Service
The audio service in Windows needs to be running properly to ensure sound output. You can follow the steps below to check the audio service status:
Press 'Win + R', type 'services.msc' and press Enter to open the Service Manager.
Find the 'Windows Audio' and 'Windows Audio Endpoint Builder' services in the service list.
Make sure the status of these two services is "Running". If they are not running, right-click on the service name and select "Restart".
5. Run Audio Troubleshooter
The Audio Troubleshooter that comes with Windows can help detect and fix audio problems. You can follow the steps below to run the Audio Troubleshooter:
Press 'Win + I' and select 'Update and Security'.
Select "Troubleshooting" in the left menu, then select "Other Troubleshooting".
Under the "Playing Audio" option, click "Run The Troubleshooter" and follow the prompts to complete the testing and repair.
6. Check Physical Connection
Sometimes, physical connection problems can also lead to no sound:
Make sure your headphones or speakers are properly plugged into your computer's audio jack. If the device is loosely connected, it may result in no sound.
Try plugging the audio device into a different audio interface on your computer to rule out the possibility of a damaged interface.
7. Restore System Settings
If none of the above methods can solve the problem, you can try to restore the system to its previous normal state:
Press 'Win + R', type 'rstrui' and press Enter to open the System Restore tool.
Select a previous restore point and follow the prompts to complete the system restore. Please note that this operation may require backup of important files.
8. Reinstall the operating system
If the problem persists, the last resort may be to reinstall the operating system. Reinstalling the operating system will erase all data, so make sure you have a backup of important files:
Using another computer, download the Windows installation image and create a USB boot disk.
Insert the boot disk, reboot your computer, and press the startup key (usually F12 or Esc) to select Boot from USB.
Follow the prompts, select "Custom Installation" and format the system disk to complete the fresh installation of Windows.
The above is the way to solve the problem of no sound on laptop, hope it will help you.
