How to Fix Windows 10 'This Device Cannot Start (Code 10)' Error
In Windows 10, you may encounter the error "This device cannot start (Code 10)". This article provides effective methods to resolve the issue and restore system stability.
1. Update Device Drivers
Outdated or corrupted drivers are a common cause of the "Code 10" error. Updating the device driver can effectively resolve the issue. Using Driver Sentry is recommended for automatic detection and updating of drivers, saving time and minimizing the risk of downloading or installing incorrect drivers.
Download the latest version of Driver Sentry and install it. Open the software and click "Scan".
After scanning, a list of uninstalled or outdated drivers will appear. Locate the relevant driver and click "Upgrade".
Once the update is complete, restart your computer to ensure the updated driver takes effect.
2. Check Device Connections
Ensure the device is physically connected to the computer properly.
For USB devices, try using a different port or data cable.

Check for UpperFilters and LowerFilters entries in the right pane. If found, delete them.
Close the Registry Editor and restart the computer.
Note: After deleting these registry entries, some software may require reinstallation to function properly.
5. Run the Hardware Troubleshooter
Press Win + S and type "cmd".
Right-click Command Prompt in the search results and select "Run as Administrator".
Enter the following command and press Enter: msdt.exe -id DeviceDiagnostic
