Windows 10 users may face low volume issues. This guide offers effective solutions to restore normal audio levels.

1. Update Audio Drivers

Outdated or corrupted drivers are often the main cause of abnormal volume levels. Updating your audio driver is an effective way to fix the issue. Using Driver Sentry to automatically detect and update drivers can save time and help you avoid downloading or installing incorrect drivers.

Download

Click the download button to get the latest version of Driver Sentry. After installation, open the software and click "Scan".

Once the scan is complete, the software will display which drivers are missing or outdated. Locate the audio driver in the list and click the "Upgrade" button.

After the update is complete, restart your computer to ensure the new driver is functioning properly.

2. Check Basic Volume Settings

Check Device Volume:

  • Click the volume icon in the lower-right corner of the taskbar to ensure the volume slider is not set to mute or too low.

  • Use the volume control keys on your keyboard or the volume knob on your device to adjust the volume to an appropriate level.

Check Player Volume:

  • Open the program playing audio (e.g., media player, browser).

  • Ensure the volume slider within the application is not muted or set too low.

Verify Default Device Settings:

  • Right-click the volume icon in the taskbar and select "Sound Settings".

  • In the "Output Device" dropdown menu, confirm that your currently connected device is set as the default output.

3. Enable Loudness Equalization

Right-click the volume icon in the taskbar and select "Sound".

In the popup window, go to the Playback tab, select your audio device, and click "Properties".

Navigate to the "Enhancements" tab and check the box for "Loudness Equalization".

If any application's volume is low, drag the slider up to increase the volume.

Close the volume mixer and play audio to test the changes.

5. Adjust Audio Format

Right-click the volume icon in the taskbar and select "Sound".

In the Playback tab, select your default audio device and click "Properties".

7. Check for Hardware Issues

Inspect Physical Connections:

Ensure that headphones or speakers are plugged into the correct port.

If using a USB audio device, try a different port.

Clean the plugs and jacks to avoid dust interference.

Test Audio Devices:

Connect your headphones or speakers to another device (e.g., phone or tablet) to verify if they are functioning properly.

Use another audio device with your computer to confirm if the issue is hardware-related.

If the audio device is confirmed to be faulty, consider replacing your headphones, speakers, or audio interface.
