Regularly updating drivers can improve the performance of your device, resolve compatibility issues, and even fix some operating system vulnerabilities. So, how to update your computer's drivers? This article will give you details about several common update methods.

1. Use Device Manager

Windows provides a tool called "Device Manager", through which users can view and manage all hardware devices on the computer, including updating drivers. Here is how to do it:

Right-click on the "Start" button and select "Device Manager".

In the Device Manager window, you will see all the hardware categories, such as "Display Adapters", "Network Adapters" and so on. Click on the drop-down arrow to expand the relevant category and find the device that needs to be updated.

Right-click on the device and select "Update Driver".

You will be asked if you want to search for updated drivers automatically or choose to install them manually. If you choose to update automatically, Windows will attempt to download and install the latest driver from the Microsoft Update Server. If you choose to install manually, the system will let you browse your computer for downloaded driver files.

2. Using Driver Sentry

If you don't want to find and download drivers one by one, you can use some specialized driver update software. We recommend using Driver Sentry to automatically detect and update your drivers, saving time and avoiding the risk of downloading or installing incorrect drivers.

Download

Once installed, open the program and click "Scan" on the main interface. The tool will automatically scan your system to detect driver problems.

3. Download Driver From Official Website

Many hardware manufacturers (e.g. NVIDIA, AMD, Intel, Realtek, etc.) provide the latest version of drivers on their official websites. If you want to get more efficient and stable drivers, it is better to download them directly from the manufacturer's official website.

For example, if you need to update your graphics card driver, you can visit the official website of NVIDIA or AMD to find the right driver for your graphics card model.

On the manufacturer's website, you'll usually need to enter your hardware model number, select the operating system version, and then download the latest driver.

Once the download is complete, open the installation file and follow the prompts to complete the installation. This method ensures that you get the latest drivers from the hardware manufacturer and sometimes get access to some optimizations and fixes.

4. Enable Windows Update

Windows Update provides system patches and security updates in addition to certain hardware driver updates that are pushed through Windows Update. Although not as frequent as other methods, this is an easy way to update drivers.

Click the "Start" button and go to "Settings" > "Update and Security" > "Windows Update".
