Solve the Keyboard Not Typing Letters Issue
A common issue when using a computer is the keyboard not typing letters. This article offers effective solutions to quickly fix the problem and restore normal keyboard function.
1. Check for Keyboard Driver Updates
The issue of not being able to type letters is sometimes caused by outdated or faulty drivers. Checking for driver updates is an effective way to resolve this problem. We recommend using Driver Sentry to automatically detect and update drivers, which saves time and prevents the risk of downloading or installing incorrect drivers.
Click the download button to get the latest version of Driver Sentry, install the software, and open it. Click "Scan".
After scanning, it will display any drivers that are missing or need updating. Find the keyboard driver in the result list and click the "Upgrade" button.
Once the update is complete, it is recommended to restart your computer to ensure the updated drivers work correctly.
2. Restart the Computer
Save all your ongoing work and close any applications.
Click the "Start" menu and select "Restart".
After the system restarts, check if the keyboard is functioning normally again.
3. Disable Sticky Keys and Filter Keys
Press "Windows + I" to open "Settings".
Go to "Ease of Access" > "Keyboard".
Make sure that both "Use Sticky Keys" and "Use Filter Keys" are turned off.
Test if the keyboard can type letters normally.
4. Check Input Method Settings
Press "Win + Space" to switch to the correct input method (such as English or Chinese).
Ensure that the selected input method corresponds to the current keyboard layout.
Press "Win + I" to open Settings, select "Time & Language" > "Language".
Click on "Options" next to your current language, then delete and reinstall the input method.
In "Advanced Keyboard Settings", reset the input method to the default settings.
5. Run Windows Troubleshooter
Press "Windows + I" to open "Settings", then click "Update & Security".
In the left-hand menu, select "Troubleshoot", then click "Additional Troubleshooters".
Find and click on "Keyboard", then click "Run the Troubleshooter".
The system will automatically scan and attempt to fix any detected keyboard issues. Follow the on-screen instructions.
6. Scan for Viruses or Malware
Run Windows Defender:
Open "Settings", click "Update & Security" > "Windows Security" > "Virus & Threat Protection".
Click the "Quick scan" or "Full scan" button to perform a virus scan.
Use Third-Party Antivirus Software:
If you have third-party antivirus software, launch it and perform a full system scan to ensure the system is free from viruses or malware.
If the scan detects any threats, follow the prompts to remove them.
Following the steps above should resolve most keyboard issues with typing letters. If the problem continues, contact technical support for further help.
