Fixing the Touchpad Not Showing in Device Manager Error
Some users may face an issue where the touchpad is not shown in Device Manager. This article offers solutions to quickly fix the problem and restore normal functionality.
1. Update Drivers
Outdated or corrupted drivers are common causes of the touchpad not appearing. Updating the drivers is an essential step to resolve this issue. We recommend using Driver Sentry to automatically detect and update drivers, saving time and avoiding the risk of downloading or installing incorrect drivers.
Click the download button to get the latest version of Driver Sentry. After installation, open the software and click "Scan".
After the scan is complete, it will display any missing or outdated drivers. Find the touchpad driver in the list and click the "Upgrade" button.
After the update, restart your computer to ensure the updated drivers take effect.
2. Check Hardware Connections
Sometimes, restarting the computer can help resolve hardware connection issues.
If you're using an external keyboard or mouse, try disconnecting them to see if they are affecting the touchpad's operation.
Dirt or dust may also interfere with the touchpad's functionality. Gently wipe the touchpad with a clean cloth to ensure there are no physical obstructions.
3. Show Hidden Devices in Device Manager
Open "Device Manager" (press Win + X and select Device Manager).
In Device Manager, click the "View" menu at the top, then select "Show hidden devices".
Expand the "Mice and other pointing devices" category and check if any hidden touchpad devices appear.
4. Enable the Touchpad Device
Press Win + X and select "Device Manager".
In the Device Manager window, expand the "Mice and other pointing devices" category to see if the touchpad is listed.
If the touchpad is disabled, right-click on it and select "Enable device".
If the device is already enabled but still not working, try right-clicking on it and selecting "Uninstall device", then restart the computer. The system will automatically reinstall the touchpad driver.
5. Check System Settings
Open "Settings" (press Win + I).
Select "Devices", then click "Touchpad".
In the Touchpad settings, make sure the "Touchpad" option is on. If it is already enabled, try turning it off and then on again.
Check the sensitivity, scrolling, and other touchpad settings to ensure none of these settings are causing the touchpad to be unresponsive.
6. Check BIOS Settings
Restart the computer and press F2, DEL, or ESC (depending on your device's brand and model) to enter the BIOS settings.
In BIOS, look for "Advanced" or "Integrated Peripherals" settings.
Find the setting related to the touchpad, usually called "Internal Pointing Device" or "Touchpad", and make sure it is set to "Enabled".
Save and exit BIOS settings. The computer will restart, and you can check if the touchpad is working properly.
Follow these steps to quickly resolve the touchpad not appearing in Device Manager. If the issue persists, contact the device manufacturer for technical support.
